The aspect of developmental psychology that I chose to elaborate on is Scaffolding. Scaffolding is generally used to measure one's zone of proximal development. Scaffolding is when one is assisted to get through a situation or learning process. Scaffolding is only in relation to the helping aspect and not actually doing the work for the other. For example, when a student is writing an exam and does not understand or remember a certain question, the professor may give a hint so the student can remember. This can be considered scaffolding because the professor is only helping the student by giving a hint and not actually giving the answer or doing the work for the student. Scaffolding is important to developmental psychology because it can help measure one's abilities to solve a problem or situation with minimal assistance.
