So monkeys! What can we say about monkeys? Well if behaviorists are to be believed the entire mother to child attachment is a matter of rewards and punishments that motivate our behavior. So for a monkey "Mom gives me food, I live when im with mom" makes sense! So if there is a choice between two fake mothers, one which will give the food it needs to live and the other which is super soft, surely it will go to where it needs to in order to survive. So typically the wire mother, but maybe on occasion the cloth one.
Now we know the result was the monkeys wanted cloth mother WAYYY more then wire mother, that is interesting why would a monkey go toward the cloth mother? well its soft and potentially craved comfort at the moment, thus we can conclude that attachment achieves more then providing food for monkeys, there are other components that are offered through the attachment that the cloth mother provides that wire mother doesn't.
Okay now, this forces behaviorist to reconsider their position as their previously held conception of attachment focused on food, now perchance they will include emotions into their doctrine? To the extent that healthy attachments are not only about food but also bonding opportunities to learn and survive
Or is that already going to far inside someone's head and they just want to bring a note pad out, take notes, give and simple explanation for behavior and call it a day?
