Aside from Eriksons thoughts on the infant's level of trust in the care giver, the concepts of protoconversations and collaborative construction are helpful in building schemas through attachment as mentioned in lecture.
Collaborative construction: (aka interpersonal/intersubjective collaboration) is a construct built between infant and care giver that serve to guide cognition, behavior and social components within this relationship.
Protoconversations: (type of collaborative construction) in which both the caregiver and the infant engage in some basic form of communication. The caregiver takes this opportunity to playfully relay foundational comcepts for the future development of a particular schema. ex "Daddy takes care of us, because that's what Daddy's do". While the infant may not fully comprehend the statement, habitual protoconversations continue to strengthen attachment experienced by the infant, and eventually affect the child's meaning systems once they reach a certain age.
