The Rouge Test is a self-recognition test that identifies a child's ability to recognize themselves in a mirror as their own reflection. A red dot is applied on the child's nose, the child's response is monitored and depending on the child's age a range of different responses are demonstrated. Psychologists use this test for determining the developmental stages of self-recognition in a child. This test may not be reliable in determining a child's level of self recognition because they might not react to the red dot due to he or she not being motivated to cleaning up their face depending on their personality or traits. Hence, one may hold self-recognition but does not present any response in the rouge test, making the rouge test an unreliable test because not every child with self-recognition will display the same responses.
