Provide an example from your high school days of a situation where you felt the need to conform in some way. What was the source of this feeling? What did you gain by conforming, or what did you lose by not conforming in the situation? Would you say that any kind of power was involved? Explain.
I studied in a private Catholic school during my high school days. During special occasions students are asked to join and celebrate mass, rosary rally and other Eucharistic Celebrations. Whenever a student reject the idea of attending or bailing without a permission, a punishment is imposed by higher authorities. Punishments may include cleaning the school ground or doing community service. They are motivated to comply because of rejection from peers and other figures, acceptance from the group and to correct the ways in contrary to others. In what I observed from my former school, I believe because of the pressure imposed by my former high school, students are forced to attend these celebrations not for the reason that they are passionate about it but they are obliged since it is mandatory. Although at times, most students may feel hesitant about attending, they aren't able to fully neglect because of fear that they might be punished. Instead of doing what students want for themselves, they do it to comply to the regulations and obey the authorities. Students lose the freedom to choose or make decisions for themselves. Students need to do some personal sacrifice in order for them to be align with the goals of other people and in order to function fully as a group.
