Moscovici differentiates conversion and compliance by relating them to changes of mind (conversion) and changes of behaviour (compliance). Conversion occurs when an individual changes their mind-set influenced by the majority willingly. Whereas compliance is agreeing reluctantly or being forced to follow the norms the majority faces through pressure. An example I have experienced is going to a Catholic High School. Although it was a Catholic high school, there were many students who were not Catholic but from different religions. These students did convert to Christianity but complied to and temporarily followed the rules of the school for the duration of their study period.
