There was a time in high school when I was sitting in my math classroom and the teacher asked a question and gave us three options. One out of the three options were correct. I was pretty sure at the time that the 2nd option was the correct answer but majority of the class raised their hands, voting the 1st option to be correct. Doubting myself and seeing more than half the class raising their hands, I "conformed" and raised my hand as well. As a result, it was the 2nd answer that was correct.
Due to the "pressure" I got when I saw most of the class raising their hands and the fear of me standing out, I went along with everybody else's answer.
By conforming with everybody else, I got the wrong answer. If I decided to go with my answer, I would've gotten it correct.
Yes, there was a "power" involved. This was called the "power of the majority". Since majority of the class voted for answer #1, I felt pressured to conform to the power of the majority, in order to not stand out.
