I think what this is trying to say is that the way we as human look at ourselves is based on how we internalize our social interactions. If you are a girl and you are a witness to the way other girls talk poorly about their body image, you may then be lead to likewise think poorly, since this "is what we do"; this can be considered the norm, and as humans we like to fit in with societies normal behaviors, so feeling like you are apart of this interaction allows you to feel accepted and therefore influences your future behavior because you then become this person. I think that the world around us and the interactions we are either apart of or witness too becomes internalized and therefore influential on the way we think and view ourselves. For example, there was a time where I was involved in a conversation with some girls about certain characteristics that we dislike about other girls (typical girl gossip), and through the nature and topic of our interaction, I had begun to think more deeply which characteristics I have within myself, and I had instantly begun to dislike these things...I mean I think..I could be wrong.... lol
