Having moved from Europe the system in Canadian highschools was much different. I only attended grade 11 and 12 in Canada, and in my final year of high school I found it to be the hardest and most unfair as many of the requirements for my undergrad / vet school I was struggling to meet in such a short period of time. Teachers continuously pressured you into doing more activities being part of more groups/clubs/associations and because I didn't know any better I conformed to what was then presented as "normal" I had felt a sense of pressure and inconsistency in the information given to me so I did as much as I could. From this I gain a lot of knowledge and experiences and many references letter and job opportunities. While guidance and teachers were there to give me a general push/idea of what I should be doing I believe that it was myself that had the power in the end and put in the effort to do the research, study, work, volunteer and be the best version of me possible.
