The rouge test was reliable because the subject would either make the connection that the rouge was on their own face by looking at the mirror or not, consistently. It is invalid, however, because we are unsure about what the results mean. The mirror plays a role in this: for a subject that does not make the connection that the rouge is on his/her face, is it because he/she does not realize who they see in front of them in the mirror is actually them, or is it that they do not understand the physics behind the mirror itself?
