How are norms involved in the Zimbardo prison research? How is obedience involved? Would you say that any of the behaviour observed in the Zimbardo study was predictable from the Asch conformity studies or the Milgram obedience research? Explain.
Two norms were set during the research as norms change depending on the context. In this case, it was the prisoners given the norm of "follow the authority" and the guards, "enforce authority". Obedience played a huge role during the interactions between the guards and the prisoners as the guards were told by their authority to proceed with certain actions towards the prisoners. Obedience is what made this experiment so dangerous, because individuals started physically harming the prisoners. It was very predictable by learning from Asch and Milgram research that it is almost certain, people would conform to the authority and loss the sense of their personal responsibility.
