According to the author the main way for a larger group to conform to a minority is through the method of rational reasoning. He supports that if a minority puts forward their claims and present them to the rest by explaining thoroughly, then the "majority" is more likely to step in their shoes and view the problem or discomfort from their perspective. He argues that in the short term, at least, leads to people to conform rather than just comply. Another method suggested involves authority where one for instance may introduce a certain law which after a certain time will lead to become the norm and people will conform. This also takes into consideration the idea of threats as not conforming will lead to punishment, thus people will be obligated to adapt. This however may not have the expected outcome as it is mostly based on compliance and not internalization.
