The place I went to for high school was called Martingrove CI right here in Toronto. It was in a nice area, and the local school that hosted the gifted program. I lived about 15 minutes away and was an optional attendance student. It was often associated with prestige. It greatly lived up to this, students even from my graduating class went on to attend Penn State, Vanderbilt and other various American universities. It was also common for students to attend the Health Sci/Life Sci programs at McMaster, U of T, and more of the leading universities. These students often came from financially well of home and the population was mostly Caucasian and some from East Indian backgrounds. It wasn't unusual to see students in Roots jogging pants. I often wanted to buy some, but it was much too expensive. Eventually I decided it didn't matter and I wouldn't buy them. You'd see people in Roots wear all winter, so I often had to tell myself that it didn't matter. One day, I'm sure I changed my mind. I lived through all of high school thinking that one day I'd convince my parents to buy me the pants. I didn't get them in high school, but I remember one day in the year after I graduated, I went to the local Roots shop and bough a pair of the grey Roots pants, which I still wear today.
