Although sex and gender may both seem the same, there is a huge difference between the two. The difference between the concept of sex and gender is that sex is entirely based on biological processes whereas gender is culturally constructed. In my opinion, the concept of gender can be seen as a normative science. This is because gender is affected and influenced by cultural factors. Gender identities are constructed because society has set roles and norms for each gender. Norms and gender roles may vary across the different cultures. For instance, in my Indian culture, women are expected to be married at a certain age and are encouraged to start a family as soon as possible and men are expected to be career focused aka the money maker and head of the family. The distinction between the two concepts help psychologist study the differences between men and women on an objective manner. This is important because psychologists can better understand the human behavior.
