Conversion according to Moscovici, is when a minority influences the majority. Compliance is when a person adapts to the norms and values of a group to gain acceptance ( conformity)
An example of a conversion would be the suffragettes movement. The women were able to convince and change the views of the majority group although they were minorities in society at that time.
An example of compliance could be when an individual is part of a group of friends and begins to act and adopt the norms of the group. For example, a person begins to smoke because the group of friends all do. In order to feel accepted by the group, the individual begins to smoke to avoid rejection.
