The students in the Milgram’s experiment are asked to violate norms for asking people to give up their seat for them on the subway. This would make them feel uncomfortable because they almost already knew the response they would get and the embarrassment they would feel afterwards. This shows the importance of norms because we are expected to act in a certain way and if we do not live up to the norm, we will be going against the society.
