The difference between sex and gender.
Sex is the biological category people belong to, while gender is the social role ascribed to people who fall in either the female or male sex
category. The great distinction between sex and gender is the different degrees of freedom. The freedom from sex, is very limited to male and female. On the other hand gender has a great degree of freedom because it's focus is on the social aspect and societies norms how the individual choose to identify himself.
This is very relevant to psychologist because when it comes to the aspect of gender-role Distinction, how one identifies himself could be different from their biological makeup. If the individual identifies themselves as their "sex" one could look at it as "working in" however if individuals identifies themselves different from there biological makeup and identifies themselves as the preference of another gender, then psychologist could consider that "working out" which then would impact the approach when understanding gender identity and gender roles.
Example, a Male by biological genetics who identities himself as a female. Or a female who identifies herself as male. Psychologists would have to approach this view differently than if you're working with the standard male and female role distinction and gender distinction.
