What does Moghaddam mean when he says that “language is recognized as not just descriptive, but constructive” by social constructionists? Can you give an example of how language might be constructive?
-This line implies that language is constructed as part of individual’s system of communication. It is constructed in a sense that there are categorizations, distinctions and differences since individuals can continually devise words or phrases to be used. Hence, when language is put in a social constructive view, it means that it follows communication patterns that reflect the norms of the society for better understanding about the world. An example of which is how language plays a role in the development of a child. Language and culture according to Vgotsky are frameworks of humans in terms of understanding the world. In a classroom setting, the students construct their own knowledge and understand to what is being thought to them.Teachers can organize activities that needs to be done in groups and students needs attentive participation to exchange their ideas. They can clarify meanings of different context and may provide numerous examples to support it.
