According to Moghaddam’s propositions of social constructionism, I would say that a social constructionist would explain psychological phenomenon’s through a normative explanation. Social constructionism gives significance to the idea of people and behavior emerging through social interactions. It gives importance to meaning making and how people construct and uphold interpretations. So, from a social constructionist view, how a phenomenon is explained is referenced to the norms and rules of that time. An example of a psychological phenomenon can be gender roles. A social constructionist would argue that gender roles are not fixed but rather are influenced by culture. For example, in some cultures there are divisions in society between the types of careers that men and women should hold. A social constructionist would argue that divisions in society are due to the norms and values created by that culture and not because of biological reasons.
