Positivism postulates that there is one objective truth. This is in line with nomothetic research methods as positivism seeks to inductively discover the truth about human nature by taking data from particular cases and using that data to arrive at general theories and laws about human nature.
The Social Constructionist approach rejects positivism and the idea of a fixed human nature. Rather, it supports the idea that human nature is a product of social interactions rather than genetics. This would mean that data collected cannot be used to create universals about human nature, but is specific to the culture in which the date is collected. This is more in line with idiographic research methods.
Therefore, I believe that a psychologist with a social constructionist approach would be much more sympathetic to the use of idiographic research methods.
