The psychological problem that Moghaddam describes as the “good copy problem” would be that the minority groups are encouraged to join the majority group, however they can never be the real thing. Hence the term, “good copy”, which suggests that the minority group cannot be as good as or better than the real thing, referring to the majority group. Considering this, the good copy might be present in a multicultural oriented society due to the following reasons:
1. With multiculturalism, there is a possibility for some minorities to abandon their own ancestral culture and language. For example women of Islamic faith might abandon the cultural practice of women wearing hijabs. Also, they may want to appear as less visible due to discrimination of their race or religion so they abandon their cultural practices. Thus, helping minorities to show more pride in their culture, might subject them to discrimination
2. Multiculturalism can also be associated with cultural relativism (judged based on culture). This would negatively affect minorities because it suggests that we disregard human rights and minority groups would not have protection from international law.
Therefore, multicultural societies may or may not see less of the "good copy problem"because in these societies due to the way multicultural policies are structured, minorities can be subject to discrimination. This emphasizes that the minority will never be like the real thing.
