I would say social constructionists take more of a normative explanation rather than a causal approach. Social constructionists are more interested in the culture and the history of how a certain phenomena began rather than a cause and effect relationship. They are also put an importance on how people give construct meanings to certain things. An example would be race, the way we think of race and racism is shaped by society. They believe that the understanding of certain ideas of race an in our society because we humans made them happen they don't believe its because of their biological makeup.
