Language is constructed by ways of shared understandings. For example the word 'true' could be descriptively used to define something as valid, or it could be colloquially constructed to mean that someone is in agreement with you, or understands what your saying. The latter is understood in a social context, and if a someone learning english heard that they may take it as a strange response. Therefore these nuances must be learned so we can all participate in the construction of language. The meanings and uses of words is malleable and can be altered. Every new generation comes up with their own usage of vocabulary, which is perpetuated by cultural vehicles like music and tv. Thus language has a life of it's own and is not merely descriptive but a constructed tool.
