Are emotions innate? Damasio raises the question of whether emotions are innate. His answer isn't a simple yes or no. Summarize his response.
I believe that emotions are both innate and some are learned. Innate emotions have evolved from evolution. There are many emotions that have been hardwired into our genetic makeup due to their value on survival. Examples of these emotions are anger, sadness, disgust, trust and joy. Emotion can also be learned. An example we discussed in class was when the baby monkey sees an adult monkey in fear after seeing a snake. The baby monkey is now wired to be afraid when it encounters a snake.
