Damasio believes that feelings do have a strong biological component to them however it is not exclusive as it leaves room for more complex mental capabilities. His example with the electrical circuit of a Boeing 777 is a create example it is very complex however it is not fully automatic as some parts require the mental processes/commands/controls of a pilot. This for him is a simple example as humans are MUCH more complex. If the airplane has no "feelings" without the interference of the pilot then how can humans have feelings if they had no mental process. He also briefly mentions how we have the mental component present in our which is responsible for emotions and this is evident because we have the ability of talking ourselves out of situations, calming ourselves down when we are mad but know we shouldnt be.
