Are Emotions Innate

Emotions have some innate elements, however, it also has aspects that are as a result of environment. Damasio highlights that emotions are innate as they were created to allow for homeostasis and through their existence organisms are able to carry out the process of self-preservation, however, it is also highlighted that some emotions come into being because of environmental impact. By going through an event that is outside the scope of the primary emotions, then individuals develop social emotions, these are responses to environmental factors, empathy, for example, is a learned emotional response directed towards someone and plays no real rode in homeostasis as the primary emotions do.
