A couple of years ago, I used to work at a phone company where my boss used to sell used phones as brand new phones. He would tell the sell associates (me included) to not mention anything to customers. I thought it was inappropriate and although I didn’t say anything to my boss because I was afraid of losing my job. I simply wouldn’t recommend those phones (I knew which ones were the used ones) to customers. If they asked my opinion on it, I would say that they’re not good phones so they wouldn’t buy them. At that time I thought I was being clever because I wasn’t necessarily obeying my boss. Now that I’m older I realize that it was wrong and although I don’t have a guilty conscience of me selling used phones and new ones, I still have a guilty conscience of not having said anything and going against authority upfront.
