Analyzing the situation that happened to both children, I do believe that the placebo effect can explain their performance in the second game. The two played much better in the first game than they usually do, but coincidently the child that had their socks washed did not play as well as before, but the one who didn't have their stuff washed played well. I believe the second child demonstrates a placebo effect, the child believed that the washed socks would make them play worse and evidently they did play much poorly than the last game.
