According to Damasio, the most important and interesting contribution of Spinoza to the understanding of the mind and body problem is that both, the mind and body are “two sides of the same coin”. Here, Spinoza introduced the notion of dualism. He believed that the mind and body are two aspects of the same concept. He emphasized that the mind helps all the other body parts to function. For instance, the mind and body functions work together to pick up visual images and content, which then helps us accumulate emotions and feelings. Whereas, Descartes believed the mind and body worked separately, so they were two different structures.
