In Catholicism, children are taught at a young age that "God is everywhere", yet I think that few of the patrons providing these teachings read up on Damasio's work. Damasio's God, which, simply put, is something that exists everywhere, at once, within nature. As He does not directly influence our daily lives, the majority of people that follow Catholicism are preached to, telling them to give forward, donate time and other resources, and help create a positive community. The idea, being that committing crimes against others or themselves, causes the greatest amount of damage to the person committing the crime.
In this spectrum, Damasio chooses not to examine spirituality under the same standards as nature's building blocks, as there have been previous tensions between the scientific community and the church.
