"I don't trust men; they all say they'll be true, but they never are."
1) Psychoanalytic Approach
- Through a psychoanalytic approach, they would look into this issue through an individual's experience from the past regarding their interaction with men. Specifically, important male figures in their lives such as a father figure, an ex-boyfriend of even a male best friend. With this information, the therapist would dig deeper into their thoughts and feelings as to what had caused their distrust in men, like a cheating boyfriend or their father having an affair. Their previous negative experience with men had caused the individual to have this mindset of ALL men being untrustworthy and a therapist entered around the psychoanalytic approach would find the main source of this belief.
2) Behaviourist Approach
- Through a behaviourist approach, they would look into this issue in regards to their behaviour and how they interact with men. When an individual is hurt by men through previous experiences, the individual would most likely be cautious when being approached or approaching men. With this mindset of distrusting men in regards of repeated negative feedback, the result would be the lack of trust in men. A behaviourist would mainly focus on their reaction when approaching or being approached by men and how it relates to their distrust in men.
The difference between the two approaches is that the psychoanalytic approach would focus on the individual's thought and feelings and how it stemmed off of their previous experiences with men. The behaviourist approach on the other hand would focus on their actions on a more physical aspect where they would avoid men as a whole out of fear of being lied to again.
