To me, understanding someone is like reading a text because it is difficult to read an entire text and grasp one meaning. To understand a text to the fullest amount you must read it in sections, picking it apart to get down to the basis of what is trying to be said. Likewise, understanding a person can be similar because when I am trying to understand someone, I don't listen to their situation and make a decision/assumption based on an 'overall' gathered conception- trying to understand them this way would mean not really understanding them at all. There are so many pieces to each person, and so many reasons we all do or think the way we do, therefore if we are trying to understand another human to the fullest extent we have to break them(their decisions, words, feelings, actions etc) into smaller pieces so that we can find reasoning an explanation FOR the bigger picture.
