Constructive bankruptcy is when one loses their ability to bring up a self-constructed meaning system for a situation. The situation is usually negative and involves death and/or harm to oneself or people which one would care about. A rather grim example of constructive bankruptcy would be a mother witnessing first hand, the loss of her young child’s life. The mother has not experienced a situation like this before, thus has constructed no meaning system for the situation. Her meaning systems would have reached bankruptcy and she would not know how to act. This may cause her to repress the memory in the future, or become hypertensive to anything which could trigger the memory.
