Scheinder had the inability to locate himself in time and space. Although he had a connection with his pre reflexive self but was not conscious or aware. He was basically stuck in the vital order. He was not able to anticipate the future and reflect on the past.

Can you expand more on the existential self? Why is it important to look at Schneider in order to understand the self?

Its important to understand the self by Schneider's example because he was unable to do pre-reflective thinking of the past so there was no motivation, reasoning or purpose in order for him to be able to grow and "be in the world" and live in the present or plan for the future to enhance our conatus literally.
