Butt asserts that individuality, that is, the concept of the separate self distinguished from others, is not inherent to the human psyche but is actually constructed by the human, and we are beings who, from birth, are born into relations to others and continue to relate to others through time. Butt uses the example of a parent trying to calm down a baby; the baby must feel that although he is now upset, in time he will be okay and feel better. The parent's synchrony with their child, a significant person in their life, depicts how empathy for example is in relation to the human order, we show empathy based on our understandings of others.

Hi,
A nice explanation and argument that you have provided above. Could you talk about how does the later work done in the class such as Mogadam fit in here.
Thanks,
Ali
