Butt says self is based on social interaction; the self is not a thing or a being but rather a body subject. He suggests, an aspect of self is the body as we experience it before we're aware of it which helps us give meaning to the world around us. He says "the issue of what constitutes one's true self: would not arise outside of modern context. By this he means: today, when we reflect on them or me, we reflect on the self. Our relationships have changed compared to 400 or 500 years ago.
