Repressing memory is very different from reconstructing the memory. The reason why is because repression would refer that a person is actively trying to forget a traumatic experience out of grief or embarrassment. Reconstruction however is when you retell a story that is different from the actual event that occurred. For example let’s say person is giving an eye witness testimony and they don’t exactly remember the event because they were shocked. As a result the person that was shocked made a version of the story that was made up by them.
