One of the main philosophical debate in psychology is the idea of ideographic and nomothethic approach to studying behaviour. The nomothetic approach is concerned with what we share with each other in order to establish laws or generalization while idiographic is interested in our experiences that makes us to discover what makes each of us unique, so in other words idiographic focuses on individual dispositions while nomothetic focuses on trends. Both of these approaches has their strength and weaknesses and one psychologist argued that psychologists should focus on personal dispositions since it is the only way we can arrive at an clear and objective understanding of the individual personality however we must also be aware that it does not represent the population. The nomothetic focuses on making generalizations and represents the society and its trends but individuals may be at a disadvantage when it comes to making laws.o
