In a double blind procedure the experiment is done anonymously from both sides. Both researchers and participants are unaware of who belongs to which experimental group. Hence the name double blind procedure. This procedure was created to control any bias the researchers may have towards the participants which allows more accurate results. From my understanding the double blind test is most commonly used to test the placebo effect because it provides researchers no prior information to form results based off their bias.
