The two young boys strongly believe that their dirty socks hold some meaning and good luck. This means that the effort they will put into their games will increase. The fact that the first boy played well when he wore his dirty socks made his parents believe that if he didn't put his socks in the wash, the boy will continue to excel. The seconds boys parents however disagreed, therefor the boys motivation for the game declined because he felt like the luck was washed away. The placebo effect is a great way to look at this situation because if we think realistically, the boy could have played well but his mindset is what lead to his downfall because he thought that without the socks, he could not prosper. I also believe that the parents influence on the children has an impact. I think this because, the first boys parents uplifted him and let him believe that he had lucky socks which will none the less influence and motivate him in hopes that he will play well every game. Where as the other boys parents didn't believe in this thought and let the child down by making him believe that all his luck was gone which he showed during the game. However, they are just socks and the placebo effect is a great way to explain this scenario
