What is the behaviour (the operant) being conditioned?
completing daily homework
What is the reward or negative stimulus involved?
Reward: receiving participation credits or additional marks. Negative stimulus: (if not completed) could result in loss of marks, poor grades, reprimanding from teacher
Does the situation involve positive reinforcement, negative reinforcement, or punishment?
Positive reinforcement: The student gains a better understanding for the course material, accompanied by a higher sense of efficacy in finding success in this particular class Negative Reinforcement: (if not completed) The student may fall behind, and encounter struggle and self-doubt with regard to their level of comprehension
Do you agree that most learning is a product of conditioning rather than a product of cognitive process that take place in the situation?
Suggesting that learning is a product of conditioning would be a reductionists approach. I would advocate that learning, from an academic perspective, is dependent on other situational variables which may or may not include; the qualities of the instructor, classroom environment, subject matter as it relates to the individual, as well as the individual's level of motivation to be successful.
