When Moghaddam mentions the idea of play, I think he means that children go through certain situations in which they act above their age unknowingly which, they are able to acquire knowledge for in the future. Such an example would be that as children, we used to go door to door and try to sell chocolates and convince the people to buy it for a certain purpose. This helps the child acquire knowledge for what may be the situation as a role of an adult who is in the advertising business.
