Just found this interesting statistic in an article on life-hack.com where the author Royale Scuderi who is a creative strategist, consultant and writer that specializes in cultivating human potential for happiness, health and fulfillment.
The author writes about the importance of EQ in the human daily life and that arguably in our current time is even more important than IQ in some regard.
(The author states in her article that emotional intelligence had originated as a "social intelligence" in the 30's, later as "emotional strength" and finally to it's current term)
As we are social creatures and society have grown drastically in last century, social interactions happen all the time, especially online, so it's a very important aspect of our lives as it involves the idea of how we present ourselves to others as well as how we perceive others that plays a high role in our success and happiness.
Emotional intelligence requires a certain level of awareness and understanding of one-selves emotions, people range on that scale of how aware they are and how well they can understand what they observe which determines the level of their EQ. These two factors: "awareness" and "interpreting" are partially innate, partially learned.
In a sense it resembles language, as proposed by Chomsky, humans have innate mechanisms for acquiring language, that when we learn a language we apply these inborn tools that allow us the acquisition and implementation of language. This suggests that we might also have certain mechanisms behind the awareness of our emotions and the understanding or the reasoning behind them.
