A schema by definition is the mental representation of something such as a plan, an action or a theory. One example of a schema can be seen when an adult drives for the first time. Even though he or she might not know the specifics of the procedure of driving, they do sit in the drivers’ seat, put the key in the ignition, know what the stirring wheel does, know that they have to use the pedals etc. To add on they don’t usually get in the car for the first time and sit in the back seat or start pushing random buttons in the car when attempting to drive, as they already have a general mental representation, a schema, of this action and act in an appropriate matter.
