Schema are past experiences that have had an impact on an individual and shaped how they behave- shapes the cognitive mind. Attachment is explained as a bonding between young and their primary caregivers. Eriksons model of development can be used to explain the a correlation between attachment and a formation of schema.
Eriksons main focus in the infancy stage of his model is on trust-- infants are solely dependent on the people around them. Experiments have shown that children who have dependable caregivers who are attentive to the infants needs, they will develop a strong sense of trust in caregiver. Eriksons model suggests that a person must past through each stage successfully to grow into an adult-- cannot get from one stage to the other without successfully completing the first. The important struggle in stage one is to learn to trust-- this can be done through attachment of infant to primary caregiver. The infant will use the experience of having an attentive caregiver that they can depend on to build a schema of trust which, in future adulthood, will help them to develop healthy strong, trusting, relationships. On the other end, a child that has a more aloof primary caregiver may have difficulties trusting and building relationships as an adult.
