A. Self Reports
Self reports are not the best way to gather information about the person being assessed. We tend to report ourselves differently, more positively or negatively, than a third person observing us. The self-perception theory is another reason. We only know ourselves through our own experiences and beliefs. We might not know ourselves as well as we think we do like a person who fully and objectively observes us. On the other hand, our perception is subjective and probably biased. Self reports might actually be extremely flawed although we might assume they are the best method to asses ourselves.
B. Reports from close friends and family are superior. They can be more honest and realistic as third persons. When you know you're being assessed, you act different due to the placebo effect.

Do you think that family members may be biased as well? For example, do you think parents are more likely to only mention positive things about their kids because a negative comment may reflect their own parenting style?
