A. Choose one of the three methods of personality assessment listed below and indicate what factors might limit its reliability and validity.
B. If you had to argue for the superiority of one of these methods over the others, which one would you choose and why?
1. self reports from the persons being assessed
2. reports from close friends and relatives of the person being assessed
3. observations of the person being assessed by a trained observer.
A) Self Reports: While conducting a personality assessment, answers may be altered which limits its validity and reliability. The way one perceives themselves may be in a more positive way than what the individual really like or it can go the opposite way as well (negative way). Also, the individual conducting the assessment may not be answering honestly. Another factor may be that the person being assessed does not understand what is being asked and/or does not know what traits they possess.
B) Reports from close friends and relatives of the person being assessed: I would go with this method over the others because I believe that close friends and family have a better idea of a person. The way we act around close ones is probably the most natural/organic form of ourselves so there is barely any alterations to behaviour or actions. Sometimes close friends/family can pick up on certain things that an individual does that they, themselves, didn't even know they did. Although we may have different personas with different people, the 'audience' can get a better idea of what a person is like.
