Compliance is where behavior is changed to avoid punishment, seek reward, fit in, avoid rejection etc. but the individuals thoughts/beliefs about the subject don't change. Conversion is where the individuals mind (beliefs/thoughts) is change toward the subject.
Costumers try to tell me they should be reimbursed for stuff all the time and sometimes I don't personally agree with their argument, but reimburse them anyway to avoid them making a scene, so I comply with their argument but they haven't converted my thoughts on the subject. An example of conversion would be when I was about to buy a cheap pair of snow boots but my partner convinced me to get the more expensive pair by arguing they last longer, will be warmer etc. and I agreed, changed my mind and bought the more expensive pair.
