QUESTION 1. Conforming to a minority What are the primary suggestions that Moghaddam gives for people who are in a minority position and wish to bring others to conform to their way of thinking or acting? What examples can you provide of how a group with a minority position succeeded in gaining the conformity of many from the majority?
ANSWER 1. The answer is to create movements, "...Many of the most monumental changer were brought about through movements that began as minority movements" (Moghaddam, p. 242). What people who are in minority positions should do to bring others to conform to their way of thinking or acting, is through clinging to radical new norms, in which will create a complete new movement (Moghaddam, 242), which will eventually overcome the majority group. Some examples of how a group with a minority position succeeded in gaining the conformity of many from the majorities, are: -A minority that takes a consistent position, but not one that is rigid or dogmatic, is more likely to be influential on a majority (Moghaddem, p. 242), and therefore minority is gaining conformity of many from the majority.
-The minority that help prevent the danger of dictatorship and the loss of basic freedom are considered non-conformists (Moghaddam, p. 241), therefore in some cases, "...It is the minority that beings about change in the majority." (Moghaddam, p. 241).
