The rouge test is an experiment where the researcher draws a red dot on an infant’s nose, then places the infant in front of a mirror. If the infant touches their nose then they are self aware, this usually happens at around eighteen months of age, which would mean that the experiment is reliable and valid.
In actuality, the experiment is reliable, but may not be valid. The experiment is consistent, every child will touch their red nose when a mirror is placed in front of them around eighteen months. The experiment does not necessarily prove that the child is self aware at eighteen months, the child may understand the physics of a mirror for the first time at that age, thus it may not be valid.
